EN | Faces of the city (2022 – present)
Projekt Tváře města je vizuální výpovědí o Libereckém prostoru – tichou, ale naléhavou sondou do vztahu člověka a urbanizované krajiny, ve které žije. Svými fotografiemi nepopisuji město tak, jak ho běžně vnímáme. Místo toho odhaluji jeho vrstvy, struktury a rytmy. Zcela bez sentimentu, a přitom s hlubokým porozuměním.
Záměrně pracuji s prázdnou scénou – postavy lidí mizí a na jejich místo nastupují stěny, úhly, materiály, světelné odrazy, barevné plochy. Vzniká tak jakýsi městský autoportrét, kde má každé zákoutí, každý stín nebo oprýskaná fasáda svou roli. Geometrie se stává jazykem, kontrast barvou hlasu.
Liberec není v mých fotografiích městem, které by se snažilo zalíbit. Je surový, fragmentární, někdy až nehostinný. A právě v tom tkví síla tohoto cyklu – ve schopnosti neuhnout pohledem. Město se zde nestylizuje do pohlednicového ideálu, ale odhaluje se takové, jaké skutečně je: plné otisků rozhodnutí, nápadů i selhání.
Tváře města nejsou o nostalgii. Jsou o přítomnosti. O otázkách, které nevyslovujeme nahlas: Co z města zbývá, když z něj zmizí lidé? A co naopak říká samo o nás – těch, kteří ho tvoříme, měníme a zároveň opouštíme?
V době, kdy digitální obrazy zahlcují náš svět estetizovanými simulacemi reality, přináším zpět hodnotu tichého, soustředěného pohledu. Není to jen dokument, je to meditace. A také výzva – znovu se dívat.

The project Faces of the City is a visual testimony about Liberec - a quiet but urgent probe into the relationship between man and the urban landscape in which he lives. My photographs do not describe the city as we usually perceive it. Instead, I reveal its layers, structures and rhythms. Completely without sentimentality, yet with a deep understanding.
I deliberately work with an empty scene - the figures of people disappear and their place is taken by walls, angles, materials, reflections of light, coloured surfaces. This creates a kind of urban self-portrait, where every corner, every shadow, every shabby façade has its role. Geometry becomes the language, contrast the colour of the voice.
Liberec in my photographs is not a city that tries to please. It is raw, fragmented, sometimes even inhospitable. And that is the strength of this series - the ability not to get lost in the view. The city here is not stylized into a postcard ideal, but revealed for what it is: full of the imprints of decisions, ideas and failures.
Faces of the City is not about nostalgia. They are about the present. They are about the questions we don't say out loud: What will be left of the city when its inhabitants disappear? And what does that say about us - those of us who make it, change it, and leave it at the same time?
At a time when digital images overwhelm our world with aestheticized simulations of reality, I am reclaiming the value of the silent, focused gaze. It's not just a documentary, it's a meditation.
